Washington state nurses to learn how positive collaboration with leadership benefits everyone

BROOKFIELD, Wis. — Nurses and healthcare leaders both want to have a positive impact on patient care. To achieve that, collaboration is crucial.

On Sept. 25, OnCourse Learning’s Jennifer Mensik, PhD, RN, MBA, NEA-BC, FAAN, will provide nurses with resources on how to make positive collaboration a reality in a challenging healthcare environment. Mensik will be a featured speaker at the Washington State Nurses Association’s 2017 Union Leadership Conference in Chelan, Wash., with her presentation, “Surviving AND Thriving.

“We all exist to make patient care better,” said Mensik, who serves as vice president of CE programming. “Sometimes, we have different ways of seeing how to get there. How do we work together and make change despite diverse opinions? I want to give nurses the resources they need to make a positive impact.”

Mensik is also a blogger for Nurse.com, the premier healthcare brand of OnCourse Learning, where she writes on a variety of nursing topics.

“Healthcare environments are changing, and nurses want to help lead positive change in their organizations,” she said. “Nurses can make change happen on a grassroots level. We have to understand everyone’s perspective and move forward.”

Mensik also will present “How to Thrive in Your Hospital” during a Sept. 26 breakout session with nurses. A nurse who is not engaged is not providing the best patient care possible, according to Mensik.

“You want to thrive as an individual,” Mensik said. “When you’re thriving, you feel like you’re growing. When you’re not thriving, you’re not engaged.”
