BROOKFIELD, Wis. — OnCourse Learning Director of Gaming Programs David Vialpando is one of the experts scheduled to address self-assessment protocols for tribal gaming entities during the Strategic Planning & Performing a Self-Assessment panel discussion from 9 – 10:20 a.m. Feb. 8 during the Western Indian Gaming Conference in Valley Center, Calif.
“Demands on gaming regulators continue to grow along with evolving gaming regulation and the addition of new gaming technology,” Vialpando said. “Consider how the influx of social gaming, fantasy sports, skill-based gaming and hand-held remote devices have changed the gaming landscape. Key discussion points will be leveraging technology to improve regulator effectiveness and efficiency, and incorporating strategies for dealing with technological growth.”
Panelists will share best practices and benchmarks to help tribal gaming commissions establish self-assessment protocols, incorporate strategic planning and general governance practices to guide tribal gaming properties. Panel topics include the following:

- Onboarding programs and ongoing training for commissioners
- Developing better internal accounting policies and procedures
- Budgeting and financial reporting
- Making transparency and accountability part of governance
