Late continuing education explained

Important details to know about late continuing education for licensed mortgage loan originators.

MLO late continuing education requirements

All MLOs must comply with the SAFE Act (The Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act) by completing continuing education each year. If you have missed your state deadline for completing your CE, you must take "Late CE" training to renew your mortgage license.

Late CE courses are configured such that course credit will be applied retroactively to the previous year and are the only courses an MLO is allowed to take to make-up a CE requirement. Each state that requires state-specific electives accepts our NMLS-approved Late CE courses.

Common questions

We've got answers to the most commonly asked late continuing education (CE) questions.

Every state requires at least 8 hours of national NMLS-approved late continuing education. Some states require additional late CE hours specific to the state. To find your required state-specific training, be sure to select each state you wish to renew your license in.

The SAFE Act does not permit licensed MLOs to complete the same course in two successive renewals. Fortunately, we create new courses every year, meaning you'll always get the most up-to-date education and you will never have to worry about whether or not you're meeting the "successive years" rule.
